NINO Privacy Policy

Last updated: 26 October 2026

Effective date: 26 October 2026 · Version: 1.0

This policy explains how the NINO app (“NINO”, “we”, “us”) handles information. NINO is published by Provantic Technologies Private Limited, Prestige Atlanta, Koramangala, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560034, India (the “Publisher”). If you have a question, write to provantict@gmail.com.

The short version

  • Everything you put into NINO — habits, water, meals, mood, sleep, journal, meditation, weight, steps, period tracking, medicines, gratitude notes and worries — is stored only on your phone.
  • NINO has no account, no servers that receive your data, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. The app does not request internet access.
  • Pro is an optional one-time purchase through Google Play. We never see your payment details.
  • Delete everything at any time with Me → Delete all my data, or by uninstalling the app.

1. What stays on your phone

None of this is sent to us. We cannot see it, and we cannot recover it for you if you delete it.

No cloud backup. NINO switches off Android’s automatic backup and device-to-device transfer for its data. To move your data, use NINO’s own encrypted backup file.

Backups you make. Backups are files you create and keep. They are encrypted on your phone with a passphrase you choose (Argon2id and AES-256-GCM). NINO never stores or sees your passphrase and cannot open your backup. Where you keep the file is your choice and is governed by that service’s terms.

2. Health Connect and the step counter (optional)

If you choose to connect it, NINO reads steps and sleep sessions from Android’s Health Connect on your phone — for example from a watch or fitness app that writes there. Daily step totals are saved in NINO’s database (and so in your encrypted backups) so your history works offline; a night’s sleep is saved as a normal NINO sleep entry you can edit or delete. NINO never writes to Health Connect and reads nothing else. You can turn access off at any time in NINO or in Health Connect. NINO’s use of Health Connect data follows the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements: it is used only to provide these features, never for advertising, never sold and never transferred.

If you turn on Count with this phone, NINO asks for the Physical activity permission and uses the phone’s step counter. No location is used.

3. Period tracking

Period data stays in NINO’s private database on your phone and in backups you make. It is never shown on home-screen widgets, the weekly recap, shared images, the PDF report or in notification text — period reminders show only a neutral line such as “Quick check-in with Nino”. Predictions are estimates and are not contraception. Fertility features are not shown to users under 18.

4. Things you choose to share

The weekly recap image, family summary image, monthly letter and PDF report are created on your phone. They leave it only if you share them through Android’s share sheet. “Add to calendar” opens your own calendar app with an event filled in; NINO does not read your calendar. Home-screen widgets and the Quick Settings tile show today’s habits, water, streak or mood on your home screen, so add them only if you are comfortable with that.

5. Google Play Billing

Pro is bought through Google Play. Google processes the payment and tells the app whether your Google account owns Pro; we never receive your card, bank, name or email details. Google Play’s terms and privacy policy apply to the purchase (policies.google.com/privacy).

6. Permissions

PermissionWhy
NotificationsThe reminders you set
Exact alarms (optional)Only if you turn on “Exact times” in Reminders
Run at startupRestores your reminders after the phone restarts
VibrationGentle haptic taps, which you can switch off
Biometrics (optional)Privacy lock; the check happens on your phone and NINO never sees your fingerprint
Health Connect: steps and sleep (optional, read-only)See section 2
Physical activity (optional)The phone’s own step counter, only if you turn it on
Wake lockKeeps the screen on during sessions and lets widgets update

7. Children

NINO is not directed at children under 13. If you tell NINO you are under 18, calorie counts, calorie goals, BMI judgements, weight programmes and fertility features are switched off. Your birth year is optional and stays on your phone.

8. Health and wellbeing information

NINO is a wellbeing companion, not a medical device. It does not diagnose or treat anything. Calorie needs, BMI, programmes and the wellness score are general estimates from standard formulas, not medical or diet advice. Medicine reminders never replace your doctor’s instructions. Insights describe patterns in your own data, not causes. If you are struggling, please contact a professional. In India you can call Tele-MANAS on 14416 (free, any time) or 112 in an emergency.

9. Your rights

Your data stays on your phone, so you already control it: view, edit, export (Pro), back up, restore or delete it at any time, or uninstall. India (Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023): you may ask about processing, ask for correction or erasure, withdraw consent, nominate another person, and raise a grievance with our Grievance Officer (section 12); you may also complain to the Data Protection Board of India. EEA, UK and Switzerland: you may access, correct, erase, restrict or object, and complain to your data protection authority. United States: we do not sell or share personal information. Because we hold no copy of your data, there is nothing for us to disclose, sell or hand over.

10. Security

Data is kept in Android’s app-private storage and removed when you uninstall. An optional privacy lock asks for your fingerprint or screen lock. Backups are encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Because there is no NINO server, there is no NINO database that could be breached.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date and show the new version on this page and in the app’s release notes. The English version is the governing version.
